Snapshot Review: Holiday Inn Express & Suites Charlotte Concord I-85

PROS
Location – HI Charlotte Concord is located just off I-85 (seconds, really) and sits between Charlotte Motor Speedway and Concord’s Premium Outlets. Restaurants in close proximity abound from fast food (Sonic, Cook Out) to “sit down” establishments (Texas Road House, Jim and Nick’s BBQ).
Clean Exterior – The exterior of the building (common areas, parking lot) were well maintained. Even though it wasn’t early enough in the season for pool use, the pool and pool area were cleaner than most I have actually seen in use lately.
Prompt attention when there was a problem – The air conditioning went out one evening and once reported a maintenance person fixed the issue within five minutes.
Basic Room Gets a Plus – Bed was comfortable. TV and wifi worked well. Larger size microwave and refrigerator were appreciated. Although the hotel was at capacity the stay was quiet.
Size – Some of the other hotels in the area are much larger and with only about 80 rooms, HI Charlotte Concord doesn’t feel like a mega-place but rather a bit more easy to navigate. Parking is free and if desired I could easily situate my car so that I could see it outside of my room window.
Manager’s Reception – On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings (5 to 6:30 pm) local restaurants share their fare during the manager’s reception. The spread isn’t huge but it’s a good pick me up after a busy day.

Basic room was comfortable.
“Oh, No’s!”
Despite the level of clean outside the building there was a low level of grime in the hallways and room. Check out the picture of the filthy blind in my room (below) and note that this was not the flip side of the blind but easily visible as soon as the guest stepped inside the hotel room.
Breakfast selections were standard with bacon, eggs, yogurt, cereal, etc. but it was served late. On one morning more than a dozen travelers awaited a late start.
I’m not sure how to resolve this one except for asking nicely. If you stay on the back side of the hotel you’ll experience almost constant “day light” from the very bright lights of the hotel across the parking lot. Rather than focus light on their own lot they primarily shine light through the windows of the Holiday Inn. If it hasn’t already been attempted, the manager really ought to pay a visit next door and ask for adjustments.

Unfortunately the grime level in some areas was unacceptable. This was the blind in my room.
